A wide-gauge waterway network between the Scheldt and the Seine basins, the Seine-Scheldt canal will, from 2014 onwards, link up the waterway networks of the “Ile-de-France”, France’s first economic region, Benelux and Germany. This major axis will bring the French (Paris, Le Havre, Rouen) and the Northern European and Rhine basin ports closer together.

One of the European Commission’s Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) priorities, the Seine-Scheldt canal will promote sustainable development, improve the desert of enclaved land and create a concrete solution to the problem of saturation of the North-South corridor.
